FREEDOM CENTRE

PROJECT NAME: The Freedom Centre

PROJECT LOCATION: Helier Jersey

Ricoman completed an auditorium lighting project in October 2023. The venue was a new church that was to use an old Odeon cinema building in the heart of St. Helier, Jersey.

The brief was to have an as flexible lighting scheme that was to use lines of light, with individual dimming control, per light that was recessed and suspended in the variable height spaces.

Ricoman lighting design team came up with a design and with a new approach due to a curved lower ceiling that called the use of downlights to miss the steel beams.

The technical team came up with solutions to fit the needs of the place.

In the lower ceiling having now been boarded out, Ricoman suggested the Endor 55-degree customisable downlights with Titanium reflectors to match the dark grey/black ceiling.

The 12W output was used at the lower height and then rising to 24W and 32W as the ceiling rose upward. The adjustable wall wash version was used also to correct the angle as the ceiling curved, so the lights pointed downward.

For the vertical walls, Ricoman supplied the 55W 55 degree, 300mm from the wall to maximize the scollop and to wash the wall with light. The wall was black, so the power was needed to produce a crisp result.

For the open higher area, Ricoman designed and supplied single units of Estrella Pro UGR for a low glare result and maximum visual comfort. Each product was again controlled individually.

A different type of fitting was needed for the stage to be used for cleaning and non performance times. For this purpose, Thanos linear high bay was the perfect match.

The finished result surpassed all the expectations. Lux levels were met, the control via Casambi allowed for the lux levels to be adjusted depending on the venue’s application, acceptable glare levels were met and the wall washing made a visual reference for those standing on the stage looking out.
