Whirlpool with Flow

Kai Interiors approached us with a creative vision to incorporate Astrowave, our 360-degree rope light, into the design. The idea was to loop it around the space, creating a playful and immersive experience. While this concept was inspiring, the project soon evolved into something even more dynamic.

As planning and redesign took shape, the idea of a Whirlpool design emerged. This led to the introduction of Flow, our curved linear lighting system, which provided a more sophisticated solution to bring the Whirlpool concept to life. The shape, representing fluid motion and energy, was the perfect fit for Clays’ interactive and vibrant environment.

Once the design was accepted, the next challenge was making the Whirlpool lighting system not just colour-changing but dynamic—capturing the essence of a clay being shot and exploding. Initially, a DMX controller was considered for managing the RGB functionality of the Flow luminaires, but it was ultimately rejected due to its complexity.

Lighting the Perfect Shot: Ricoman’s Collaboration with Kai Interiors for Clays.

In May, Ricoman Lighting was thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Kai Interiors on an innovative project for Clays, a one-of-a-kind interactive clay shooting experience. The brief was clear: to design and supply lighting that would elevate the atmosphere of the space and complement its interactive, dynamic vibe.

The final installation at Clays seamlessly blends stunning design with innovative lighting technology, creating a space that is both functional and unforgettable.

Enter Casambi, with Owen Basara-Hamilton offering a creative solution that proved both cost-effective and user-friendly. The Casambi system allowed for seamless programming of the desired lighting effects, maintaining the dynamic vision while ensuring simplicity in operation. This quick-burst solution was the perfect choice to bring the Whirlpool design to life.

Once the order was placed, Adam Hardy from ECS and Paul from Ricoman handled the onsite commissioning, ensuring that the installation met the project’s high standards. To make the lighting system as user-friendly as possible, the team at Clays opted for a simple push-button wall switch, allowing staff to control the scenes without the need for a smart device.
